When the Windows Stay Open

When the Windows Stay Open

There are nights in summer when the house
refuses to sleep.

✧

The windows remain open long after dusk,
curtains moving softly like quiet conversation.
Warm air carries the scent of grass and distant
water. Somewhere a screen door closes.
Somewhere a bicycle passes. Somewhere a
dog barks once and then decides it is not
important.

Inside, lamps are left low.
A book rests face-down on linen sheets.
A glass sweats gently on the bedside table.

The world does not feel divided- indoors and
outdoors become the same place.

Your hear crickets in the hallway.
You feel moonlight across the floorboards.
The night enters slowly, politely, as though it
has been invited.

These are the evenings that shape a home.

Not the grand gatherings.
Not the carefully arranged moments.

But the simple choice to leave the windows
open.
To let the darkness wander in.
To trust that comfort can be found in the quiet
exchange between shelter and sky.

At Stone & Meadow, we believe a house is
most beautiful when it listens.
